Our Story

2006-  This is the year Bamboo Design & Architecture (formerly known as La Maison du Bamboo) was founded by Josée Lefrançois who established the company in Saint-Sauveur located in the Laurentians. Bamboo flooring and plywood are the heart and soul of the company but Josée decides to diversify the offer with eco-friendly furniture, lamps and accessories so to avoid putting all her eggs in the same basket.

2007- La Maison du Bamboo becomes the first company in Canada to offer material free of formaldehyde in the manufacturing process of PLYBOO bamboo flooring and plywood manufactured by Smith & Fong.  NAUF (Non added urea formaldehyde) becomes the standard to look for in regards to indoor air quality.

2008-  As a distributor, La Maison du Bamboo is proud to introduce the first FSC® Certified 100% bamboo flooring, plywood and veneer manufactured by Smith & Fong company. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.

2009- La Maison du Bamboo receives the Gala of Excellence Desjardins Award from Saint-Sauveur Chamber of Commerce which rewards the most dynamics enterprises of the community of Saint-Sauveur. 2010- Josée Lefrançois received in 2010 the prestigious award by the Conseil Quebecois du Commerce de Détail (CQCD) for Leadership, Vision and Innovation. Award offered by the Minister for Economic Development Clément Gignac as well by CQCD President. 2012-  Through our manufacturer Smith & Fong, La Maison du Bamboo introduced for the first time in the Canadian market, soy-based bamboo flooring, a formaldehyde-free adhesive system surpassing emission requirements and setting a new level for clean air in the industry.

2013 –  This is the year where La Maison du Bamboo gradually started to change its status from being a single retail address to establishing a distribution channel throughout Quebec for all PLYBOO bamboo flooring and plywood.  Towards the end of 2013, all furniture, lamps and accessories went into liquidation as they wouldn’t be part of the new business model.

November 2013 – For its remarkable virtual visibility on the internet, La Maison du Bamboo was chosen to play host to the Google E-Ville award that was offered to the town of Saint-Sauveur for the high visibility of their local companies on the internet.  Only five awards of this type are being awarded in Canada.

2014 – Time to relocate the enterprise from Saint-Sauveur to the Mount-Royal Design District, a more centralized business address to better support the continued development of its business in Quebec.

2015 – La Maison du Bamboo officially becomes a bamboo flooring supplier for the Déco Surfaces Group which represents the largest network of floor-covering and decoration retailers in Eastern Canada with more than 70 addresses.

2016 – La Maison du Bamboo changes its name for Bamboo Design & Architecture in order to facilitate its expansion in Ontario and Western Canada.

Within the same year, Bamboo Design & Architecture strengthens its positioning in the industry as a Canadian distributor of bamboo flooring and plywood for Smith & Fong and Cali Bamboo manufacturers.

2017 – Bamboo Design & Architecture introduces FRACTAL™, a new bamboo wall panel collection from Smith & Fong that allows to design your own unique wall from isosceles triangles to create squares and nested geometric shapes.  Very exciting line !

2018 – Bamboo Design pursue its dynamic growth strategy through the diversification of its products by introducing two Luxury Vinyl collections by Cali Bamboo that are in line with its environmental commitment.
