The Most Durable Flooring

The Densified™ Bamboo Flooring: The Global Standard for Durability

At Bamboo Design, we create exceptional flooring that withstands the rigors of daily life, maintaining its integrity without deforming, scratching, or wearing out.

Each floor we offer is rigorously tested according to the Janka standard, ensuring not only exceptional hardness but also a new appearance that lasts for years. The Densified™ bamboo flooring from Bamboo Design stands out as the most robust in the world, achieving a ranking above 3,500 pounds-force on the Janka test!

The Janka Hardness Scale

The Janka hardness scale, used to determine whether or not a wood species is suitable for flooring, is the primary test measuring wood’s resistance to wear and dentability. How does the test work? The Janka test measures the force required to embed an 11.28mm steel ball halfway into a piece of wood. The higher the amount of force needed, the higher the Janka score and the more durable the wood.

Life happens on your floor. Pick the one that’s built to last.

Breathe Easy

Laboratory Tests Confirm Our Floors Are 100% Ultra-Low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

ASTM laboratory tests confirm that our floors are 100% Ultra-Low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), providing a healthy and pure indoor environment for your family.

When it comes to indoor air quality, our primary concern remains the level of emissions of specific VOCs such as formaldehyde. Bamboo Design was the first to offer bamboo floors without formaldehyde emissions in its assembly process, and we are one of the few companies that maintain transparency by displaying test results online, accessible to our customers.

Several of our floors record a concentration level of “Not Detectable” at less than 0.000 parts per million (PPM) — meaning they are Ultra-Low in VOCs. Those with detectable levels are still 50 times lower than the most stringent CARB (California Air Resources Board) Phase 2 standards (0.05 PPM). In fact, the results have shown that all formaldehyde concentration levels in our floors meet at least half of the concentration typically found in the air we breathe (0.02 PPM).

Unlike some companies that cut costs by using lower-quality materials, Bamboo Design chooses to work with the world’s best manufacturers who prioritize sourcing high-quality, sustainable forest materials and maintain impeccable manufacturing processes.

Breathe Safely with Bamboo Design Floors: Ultra-Low in VOCs

What is formaldehyde?

When indoor air quality is at stake, our top priority is to minimize VOC emissions, particularly formaldehyde. At Bamboo Design, we pioneered the offer of bamboo floors without formaldehyde emissions and maintain total transparency by publishing test results online for our customers.

Our floors record “Non-Detectable” concentration levels of less than 0.000 parts per million (PPM), classifying them as Ultra-Low in VOCs. Even those with detectable levels show emissions 50 times lower than the strictest CARB Phase 2 standards (0.05 PPM). In fact, our floors meet at least half of the formaldehyde concentration typically found in the air we breathe (0.02 PPM).

Unlike some companies that compromise quality to reduce costs, Bamboo Design collaborates with the world’s best manufacturers who prioritize high-quality, sustainable forest materials and maintain impeccable manufacturing processes.

Formaldehyde: A Health Risk

Carcinogenic, formaldehyde is one of the most serious indoor pollutants. Emitted mainly by household products and floor coverings, it can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation and exacerbate asthma symptoms in children and infants. Protect your family by choosing floors without harmful chemicals. At Bamboo Design, we never compromise on material quality and manufacturing techniques, and we have the test results to prove it.

All our floors are E0 Class compliant and Ultra-Low in VOCs, ensuring a healthy environment for your family. The E0 Class is commonly used for products with very low emissions, non-detectable (n.d.), or made with formaldehyde-free adhesives (NAF). Our products comply with CARB II standards.

Leed® Credits

Bamboo Design and LEED® certification

All bamboo flooring and plywood products offered by Bamboo Design & Architecture are eligible for LEED® projects.

LEED® credits possible:

IEQc4.4: Low-Emitting Materials (no added urea-formaldehyde)
MRc6: Rapidly Renewable Materials
MRc7: Certified Wood

LEED® Canada has changed the way we see our living, working and learning environments. LEED®, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a certification program directed by an independent organization. It is also an international benchmark for designing, building and operating environmentally friendly and highly energy-efficient buildings.

Interest in low-environmental-impact residential and commercial buildings continues to grow. American studies are already showing that in certain markets, LEED®-certified houses are selling for 8% higher and don’t stay on the market as long as similar uncertified homes.

FAQ

Q. Where are Densified™ bamboo flooring made?
A. Our Densified™ bamboo flooring is sourced from Anji County in Zhejiang Province, southeast China, a region renowned for its abundant bamboo resources. This area provides ideal conditions for sustainable bamboo harvesting and manufacturing, thanks to its warm, moist climate. We source our bamboo from well-managed plantations to ensure environmental responsibility.

Q: How Are Your Bamboo Floors Manufactured?
A: Our bamboo floors are designed according to stringent industry quality standards. The bamboo is harvested at maturity, then cut into strips to extract the best part. These strips are treated with hydrogen peroxide and a natural sodium borate solution to enhance resistance to pests and mold. They are then dried in a kiln to remove moisture. Some strips undergo a carbonization process that naturally darkens their color. Finally, the strips are laminated under high pressure using an environmentally friendly adhesive.

Q: Are Your Bamboo Floors Safe for My Family?
A: At Bamboo Design, indoor safety is our top priority. We use only high-quality manufacturing techniques and adhesives to ensure our floors are free from toxic chemicals. Our floors are tested for VOCs, including formaldehyde, and are formaldehyde-free, with undetectable levels. Even those with detectable levels are 25 times lower than CARB Phase 2 standards.

Q: What Makes Densified™ Bamboo Flooring Different?
A: Not all bamboo flooring is created equal. At Bamboo Design, we use an exclusive manufacturing process that makes our Densified™ bamboo flooring twice as dense as any other hardwood, with a Janka hardness score of 3500+.

Q: How Does Bamboo Flooring Handle Water or Liquid Damage?
A: Although bamboo is naturally resistant to water, standing water can cause damage. Avoid cleaning with a wet mop and wipe up spills quickly. Consult our maintenance guide for more information.

Q: Can I Use Your Bamboo Flooring in a Kitchen or Bathroom?
A: Yes, many homeowners use our flooring in all rooms. Ensure you properly acclimate, install, and maintain your floor according to our guidelines.

Q: Can Bamboo Flooring Be Installed Over Concrete or a Radiant Heating System?
A: Yes. Consult our installation guide for more details.

Q: Is the Amber Color of Bamboo Dyed?
A: No. The amber color is achieved through a natural carbonization process that darkens the bamboo’s color. This color is integrated throughout the product, not just on the surface.

Q: How Do I Install Bamboo Flooring?
A: Installation can be done by nailing, floating, or gluing, depending on the subfloor and application. Consult our installation guides for more information.

Q: Do Densified™ Bamboo Flooring Resist Pets and Scratches?
A: Our floors are designed with a highly resistant 10-coat finish to maintain their appearance. While all hardwood floors can be scratched, keep your pets’ claws trimmed to minimize damage.
